Chaired by Burhan: The Sovereignty Council and the Council of Ministers hold a joint meeting in the capital, Khartoum. The meeting approves the state’s emergency budget for the year 2026.

Khartoum, January 22, 2026 – The Sovereignty Council and the Council of Ministers held a joint meeting in Khartoum yesterday, chaired by the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, following the return of the Sovereignty Council and the Government of National Unity to Khartoum to resume their duties. The Minister of Culture, Information, and Tourism, Khalid al-Aisir, explained in a press statement that this meeting was the first for the two councils in 2026 and represents the practical launch of the return of the executive government, in all its components, to work from the national capital, Khartoum. The Minister announced that the joint meeting approved the state’s emergency budget for 2026, noting that national and executive state institutions are operating with high efficiency. He added that the meeting also approved a number of laws, while continuing to consider other draft laws. Al-Aisir said, “We, along with all members of the Sovereignty Council, led by Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Prime Minister and head of the Government of Hope, Dr. Kamil Idris, are pleased to announce to our people that we are now carrying out our duties from the heart of Khartoum.” He also appealed to all citizens to return to their homes, emphasizing the government’s commitment to reciprocating the heroic stances demonstrated by the Sudanese people over the past years in restoring Khartoum to its rightful place and normalcy. The Minister of Information expressed his deep appreciation for the immense sacrifices made by the Armed Forces and supporting forces in the Battle of Dignity, and offered his condolences to the families of the martyrs who gave their lives for the nation.
