Sudan TV
Introductory Brief
Experimental broadcasting for Sudan Television began in 1962 within the radio studios. In 1963, the current buildings were inaugurated. Initially, broadcasting was live on-air before electronic recording was introduced. At that time, transmission did not exceed three hours per day, covering Khartoum, the capital of Sudan.
In the early 1970s, microwave systems and satellite stations were introduced, expanding coverage to approximately 70% of populated areas and major cities.
In October 1975, the first rural programming studio was established with German technical assistance. The station was equipped with telecine and video devices using large-format tapes, followed by a color film laboratory. Sudan TV is considered one of the oldest television networks in the Arab world and the African continent.
In 1989, a significant amount of modern television equipment was acquired, including transmitters, production units, and cameras. The satellite station was established and inaugurated on June 30, 1995, followed by a second station in 1996.
International satellite broadcasting via Intelsat and Arabsat commenced in 1996. This leap in international transmission coincided with the introduction of modern lighting systems, non-linear editing (NLE), electronic coloring, and computer-based editing.
Currently, the station broadcasts 24 hours a day.
